Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike has slammed through my area. We were able to evacuate safely to Oklahoma, but my family and some friends stayed to ride it out.

I was able to talk to my father and he said the storm is still tearing through. They have lost parts of their roof, both air conditioners have been taken away by winds, and his barns are destroyed.

They cannot leave their house but have been able to see across the field to our house. They know for sure that our fence is gone, but that is all they know. Our boat is probably gone too.

I have not been able to get through to any of my friends that stayed and I pray they are safe.

I am so grateful that my family is safe, but I am quite worried about our property. It is estimated that we will be without power for weeks and I do not know what we are going to do.

Obviously my shop, A Blond And A Torch, will have to be closed indefinitely.

UPDATE:

Our roof is fine and no windows are busted out. We were blessed.

My dear friend has found someone who will rent us a very nice beachfront condo along the Alabama-Florida border for less than our current hotel. We will head out there on Monday and stay for a week. I do not know what we will do after that. We have to hope that FEMA will offer some assistance soon.

It may be a month before we have electricity at our home between Houston and Beaumont.
